In this article, we’ll share a simple recipe for quinoa and chickpea balls. It is perfect for a varied dinner, tastes delicious and is also healthy.

Ingredients for quinoa and chickpea balls

You can make 6 normal sized balls with the following quantities. However, you can change the proportions and amounts as needed.

Ingredients for the balls

  • 180 g chickpeas
  • 200 g quinoa
  • 75 g breadcrumbs
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • 1 tablespoon of soy sauce
  • 2 teaspoons of coriander
  • 1 red pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon of salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper

  • 1 clove of garlic
  • 4 tomatoes
  • 1 onion
  • 240 ml vegetable stock
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 1 large carrot

Preparation of the balls

  • Soak the chickpeas in warm water for several hours,  preferably overnight. This makes them softer and can then be processed better.
  • Then let them cook for 60 minutes. During this time, you can start preparing vegetables and quinoa.
  • Wash the quinoa with plenty of water and then boil it in water. After 5 to 10 minutes, the pseudo-grain is ready. If you want it a little softer, you can cook it a little longer.
  • Chop the peppers and coriander into small pieces.
  • As soon as the chickpeas are ready, you can process them together with the garlic in the stand mixer.
  • Then stir in the quinoa and pepper.
  • Finally add the remaining ingredients, stir everything well and put the dough in the fridge for 30 minutes.

Preparation of the dip

  • To make this sauce, tomatoes, garlic and carrots are processed with a blender. Then add the vegetable stock.
  • Now heat the olive oil in a pan over medium temperature. Let all the ingredients simmer for 10 minutes.
  • This makes the sauce more intense and a little thicker.
  • When the time is up, you can now take the quinoa and chickpea mixture out of the refrigerator and start forming balls. Then add them to the sauce.
  • Let everything cook for a few minutes until the balls are cooked through.

Variation: tomato sauce with coconut milk

This variant of the sauce with tomatoes and coconut milk also tastes delicious.

  • 2 tomatoes
  • 250 ml coconut milk
  • Oregano, salt and pepper (for seasoning)
  • 1 teaspoon of curry
  • 15 ml of olive oil

  • First, clean and peel the tomatoes. Then process all the ingredients (except olive oil) with the coconut milk and spices in a blender.
  • Then put the sauce in a pan with hot olive oil and let it simmer for about 10 minutes.
  • When the 10 minutes are up, you can add the quinoa and chickpea balls. Let everything simmer for another 5 minutes.

Despite their different flavors, both sauces go perfectly with our quinoa and chickpea balls. You can cook some white or brown rice with it, or a salad would also be a suitable side dish.
